Hi all!! So I'm getting ready to change my oil. And my plan was to use Mobile 1 synthetic. But recently iv read that Mobile 1 and turbos don't get along very well. Long story short it degrades to W20 really fast?

Well I was wondering what would be the best to use? And what other people have been using?

Right now I'm running an almost stock 06 wrx. Only thing I have on it so far is a Cobb catback.

You'll be fine with most anything. I would just avoid the 5w30 M1 and Royal Purple. You don't require a synthetic. I used Castrol GTX until a few years ago when I started getting into a bigger build and I still use it on my gf's WRX.

Motul is what a lot of shops seem to love, however it's pretty expensive.

My understanding is the same. M-1 is fine. It's just the 5w30 that's the problem. Actually most of the energy conserving (5w30's) oils are good to shy away from with the Subies. My .02

Thanks all for the info! I looked in the cars manual first of course. And t said to use 5W30. It even says 5W30 on the oil cap. So I shouldn't use that grade of oil? And if not what would be the best grade to use?

Thanks!!

Run Amsoil. Very very good oil! How many miles do you have on your car? If you have high miles it's not always ok to switch to a full synthetic oil

I dont think you have anything to worry about switching at 115k miles on it but to each their own.

You can talk to 10 different people and get 10 completely different answers.

Shell Rotella is cost effective and a good oil. Amsoil is a good oil but you pay a premium for it. I get it at cost and it is still very expensive IMO when compared to other quality oil companies. I run Castrol GTX in all of my NA vehicles but in the STi i run a full synth.

The thing about AMSOIL is that I don't feel too guilty if I'm a few hundred miles overdue with an oil change.
