anyone have a cobb stage1 access ecu??
hey all, i was thinking of having cobb reflash my 04's ecu with a stage one package. does anyone have this reflash done? if so, how is your wrx running? does the performance actually live up to the hype?? are there any draw backs to having this done?
thanks in advance

love it. been lovin' it for a year with no problems. faster and smoother acceleration. the only drawback is sending your ecu to cobb. i'd get the accessport now that it's scheduled for release in a couple weeks. it is pricier but offers many more features. if you preorder now you can save some bucks and you don't have to send your ecu to cobb! eventually the accessport will save you bucks as you continue tinkering. i remember back when i thought all i'd do would be stage 1. it rarely ends there. i have a gutted up pipe and stromung 3" devorced wastegate dp in the garage.....going on next week. then the accessport comes and bang not only are you stage 2 without sending away the ecu but you have up to ten other maps to choose from! as well as ability to download custom maps on the net. this topic does lend itself to a good search. you'll get plenty info. just my long winded 2 cent.

There are a bunch of threads if you do a search for "access ecu". I just preordered my AccessPort yesterday, and they are indicating in will ship around the end of March or early April. They are raising the price like $40 bucks on April 1st for the accessport, so get it soon if you are planning on doing it. I have zero mods for my 04 sedan, and this is the first one I am doing. Seemed like the best bang for the buck for all of the reasons that oxtox gave, and I have read in the other posts. I also liked the fact that you can read the Check Engine Light warnings, and switch to anti-theft maps.
Good Luck!

IT does really help out with your stock car. feels more powerful once you have it in and then you get use to it real quick though. I think it's a worth while investment if you plan on keeping your car stock. But upgrading through them would also come out cheap as well.

hey guys, thanks for the input. looks like you are all happy with the outcome. have any of you heard of any negative outcomes of doing this? any one blow any engines or anything to that effect?? also i plan on doing a forced air tech up pipe and turboback exhaust. i spoke with noah at cobb and he said i could still run a stage 1 reflash. also, cobb told me i would have the ecu roundtrip in less than 72 hrs.
good hunting and i look forward to more input. todd

it's true, turn around is remarkably fast (mine was 48 hours). no, i can not think of any negative experiences with the whole thing. i would however have gone accessport instead - if such a gizmo was available back then. i still think in the long run you'll be happier with the many features of the accessport.....but then, i guess it's not my money! if you decide to go accessport after april 1st the new price will be $600 (it's $555 now). if you go access ecu stage 1 now and get the accessport later it's $200. good luck!

hey dd, i checked out shipping and fed ex was cheapest. they quoted me a price of 55 usd to get it out and back. that did not seem to bad. after all, that is a pretty quick turn around. by the way, have you heard of any negative outcome of reflashing??
thanks in advance, todd

so does this accessport manually reflash your ecu like they would do at cobb? Or is this a piggyback system? I was thinking about sending them my ecu instead cause I don't want a piggyback

Definitely not a piggyback. You need to go to Cobbs website and read up on it. They give you a good explaination on how it works. Also has an anti-theft map which I would think is worth a couple of hundred by itself

i agree that this is a significant improvement over piggyback technology. surferdude, peep www.cobbtuning.com. having sent my ecu to cobb for stage one, i can't wait to just press a button for stage 2 that will include cel kills! of course cobb will gladly flash you a stage 1, 2, or custom ecu....but that's why they developed the accessport in the first place.
