Accessport or UTEC

I'm kinda undecided on which one to get. Right now, i'm leaning toward the accessport since it's cheaper, and i really don't plan on doing too much self tuning. The thing that i really like about the Utec though is the remote switch. I'd like that feature a lot since you can use it like a kill switch. Yeah, i'm paranoid that somebody will steal my car. Anyhow, i know that with the accessport, you can also render your car immoble, but you have to plug in the port and change the mode everytime you get out of the car. Which one would you get?

If you guys can think of anymore pros and cons of each, i'd like to hear it. Thanks

Lot's of people seem to be planning on leaving the AccessPort connected, so Cobb says they're working on some sort of mounting bracket for it. Plus I don't think it's too tough to pull it out of the glove box, plug it in and push a few buttons to change the map, plus it holds 10 maps at a time. I don't know how many the UTEC holds. Plus if sometime down the road you want to do your own tuning, you can upgrade to the AccessTuner.

That'd be cool. My main gripe was that everytime i wanted to immobilize the ecu, i'd have to pull out the accessport out of the glove box, plug it in, wait until it's ready, set it, and then put it away. That might seem to be pretty simple and not time consuming, but imagine having to do that everytime you got out of the car. Maybe i can just find a good car alarm that'll have some type of kill switch.

Prices goin up? Doh! Do you guys know if either the utec or accessport changes the settings to get a cel? What i mean is, will either of them make it harder to throw a low cat efficiency code?

You should just read the post on Cobb's forum page. There's plenty of info. www.wrxforum.com

well I'm going with the accessport myself (paid in full and awaiting arrival - preordered early). reason being is because I've heard a LOT of good things regarding the AccessECU and since you'll be able to use the maps from the AccessECU it's all good

Also it has a built in OBD2 scanner and the price is right... if you look at a good OBD2 scanner that can clear and read codes you'll be looking about 300 or so for a kit. The AccessPort has one built in and it's also an engine management system

Not to mention all the features it's got for your money!

If you're looking in to the UTEC as well you can upgrade your AccessPort to the AccessPort Street Tuner which will allow you to self tune with a laptop. With the price being very resenable at less than $1000 you cannot go wrong.

I say get the AccessPort since it's affordable and since you don't want to do any street tuning! If you don't like it just get the UTEC or upgrade to the Street Tuner and you'll still have an OBD2 scanner

Thanks for all the advise. I think i'm going to go with the accessport. Now all i've gotta do is save up the money.
