bah, I'm not sure....thinking of ordering the AP and going to the dyno, hooking it up, if I dont see significant gains, returning it and buying a UTEC...

I used to have a UTEC and i just sold it for an accessport. One of the main reasons why I did it was because tuning was harder for the utec, but if you have enough money to spend on dyno time, then go with the utec. There also arent a lot of utec tuners out here in california. If you live on the east, theres probably plenty. If you're on a budget then go with the accessport because its cheaper and less dyno time but if you got the money and availability then go with the utec.
it dep on your planned mods. im not 100% sure if the mod list for ap is limited to the ones listed on cobbs website, but the mod path is pretty limited. nothing for a FMIC or headers for example. but if ur gonna pay to get it tuned by a pro w/ street tuner anyway, then you may as well go w/ utec and stage your mods according to your budget. AFIK more tuners are comfortable w/utec and only one in my area (front range, colorado) tunes with street-tuner.
my 2 cents cuz im curious bout this ? too. im thinking of dropping in a 257 shortblock in the next year. how hard would it be to tune for the extra displacent in general? is it the CR thats different, i figure the VE tables would be the same since displacement is constant..but wtf do i know. im just a newb.

Niether is better. Your specific needs will determine what is best for you. I went with the AP because I like the ability to change maps at will. The manufacturer has an excellent rep (as does the Utec) as well. The main thing for me is that there is a Protune authorized shop within an hours drive. When I go to stage two next month I will head there for a dyno tune. The custom map for my car will then be added to my AP as my base map. When a valet or someone else drives my car I can flash valet mode to cut the performance. If I decide to sell or trade the car I can return it to stock tune in ten minutes. That stuff is important to me. You on the other hand may care less about switching maps. Just about everyone I talk to around here has the Utec and they are happy with it. Most did not know that the AP can now be owner/shop tuned.
One other thing. I can get 94 octane gas where I live. This allows the off the shelf maps that the AP provides to work very well. I am hitting the top range of what the manufacturer says to expect.

I went with the AP.. it is on the way as we speak.. I haven't heard anything bad about either.. I just decided on the Cobb since at this point I only have basic mods(Intake, Downpipe, Exhaust).. eventually I will get the ECU flashed but at this point I don't think its worth it

no body likes the ecutek setup here? I am in the process of figuring which EM to go with also. I was interested in either UTEC or Ecutek. My mods are Intake, TBE, headers, uppipe, TSX TMIC and currently AFC and AVCR tuned. The only reason I am not turned onto the cobb setup is because I went for a ride in a cobb tuned car with the staged mods and it boosted and drove lousy.

If your looking to run on one gas type the EcuTek when mapped correctly will work great, but most people want to run good gas from time to time so opt for the AP.

I only run 93 octane gas in the car. Never race gas and never anything less then east coast premium. What is "pro tuned" I have seen the "street tuner" on the web site. As my car runs right now, I dont have the luxury of multiple maps. The most I can do is switch boost levels on the AVCR or tun it off completely and run off the wastegate. Even then I never do so. The real question is, besides the ability to switch maps will I have a better result with one or the other? Thanks

Pro Tuner is a more complete tuning tool for the AP (at this time only available to shops) which gives the tuner more access than when using Street Tuner.

isn't the ECU limited to how many time it can be reflashed right? something aroudn 40 i believe?
but ecutech/XEDE is a seperate unit? so you don't have to relash the ECU?
so if you change gas frequently then youre pretty much screwed and have to get a new ECU? unless you can change the chip?
so many questions..

The Ecu does have it's limits not sure on the exact number but the reflash companies state 100, although we have a ECU here with 150+ flashes on it and counting.
