Accessport question: a cheap/safe way to go Stage 2?

I'm getting an Accessport shortly and would like to go to Stage 2 instead of Stage 1.
I don't believe that full exhaust is the only way to go to Stage 2... is there a cheap (but still safe ) way to go to Stage 2?

In sum, I want all the performance... but not the price

All you need is a DP. Get a dp that will mate to the stock catback. TBE kicks *** though it is worth the extra cash. I belive that if you piece it together you can get a tbe for less that $600. i have the Stromung tbe no cats and i am in love. I really didn't want to spend the cash either but i'm glad i did.

Yeah just a downpipe will put in into stage 2

If it were me thought I would make sure the DP is a bellmouth style

I've done the uppipe (its good for spool time and safely increasing boost) I'm not a big fan of a cat infront of the turbo

A TBE will already include the downpipe. The downpipe is a good way to keep stock muffler or don't have enough money to do the TBE and will later choose a cat-back system

Both up/downpipes are good mods to do. A full TBE will be a much better choice, but your spending a little more $$, but the TBE will remove the 4th cat from the car

Stock the car has 4 cats, upipe = 1, downpipe = 2, actual cat = 3, catback = 4

If you remove most or all cats your car will free flow alot more and your car will benefit. I have heard of problems with removing all cats though, the car needs some back pressure, so most people keep the 3rd cat (also good to keep for visual inspection)

umm... I believe there are only 3 cats in the WRX... just FYI. There is 1 in the uppipe and 2 in the down pipe.

I know the helix downpipe replaces both down and mid

It does not replace the standard cat

I count 3. You must have California emissions(hahaha). Also yo can see here that just by removing the dp you still have the 3rd cat and the uppipe cat. Cobb says the uppipe is not nessesary for stage 2. It is ok to do it though and you will notice better spool. Some say 10-15 wheel hp?.

well... i'd lke to get the full 280 hp out of the stage 2 mode... but I don't want to spend much money.... If it's expensive i'll still with stage 1.... but I am wondering whether someone has put the accessport on a stock car.... changed to a K&N filter and changed only gutted the DP and set the accessport to stage 2

Only 3 don't know why I thought it was 4, but thats not the point

You should be able to run stage 2 with a gutted DP
