accessport on 04 wagon

Hi all:
I installed accessport on my 04 wagon 5mt yesterday and installed the 91 octane stage 1 map as Base.
The only other engine mods i have on mycar is an uppipe.

What a difference!

The hesitation...gone. The smoothness...so much better.
No more "peaky" or "jerky" power delivery. I'm very happy.

This is how the car should feel; I only wish FHI would improve the stock maps this way.

Oh...I did have the "garbled character problem" on my accessport and downloaded Cobb's .exe which worked like a charm.

Question

I live in san jose, and I am probably going to be picking up a wrx wagon this weekend. I have been reading the wrx forum board, and saw some bad posts about people getting ping/knock running the access port software upgrade. I don't plan on getting any other mods but the software at first because I don't want to void the warranty.

I would like to hear an update on the upgrade after you've been using it for a while.

update

fjork/deb:
i now have put several thousand miles on the accessport stage 1 map (91 octane), including trips over the Sierras and long trips up and down the valley.
My personal observations regarding knock are that there is less knock than I had on the stock/factory map.

I was worried particularly during the latest heat and whether that would exacerbate the problem...but even with ac on and 95 degree weather I found no appreciable problems.

I had the windows down to listen for it.

As an aside, on a recent highway trip I averaged 27.7 mpg which was higher than my best on stock map (25.5).

I also find the starting a tad easier and the idle a bit smoother.

Overall, I am *very* satisfied.

That's good to hear, since I'll be ordering mine in the near future.

That's awesome!!!!

So the wrx in normal running conditions sometimes has knock? Didn't know that. I wonder what is going on with the cars on the wrxforum board. Good to know. Hopefully the sale of my other car goes through tomorrow, then I will join the wrx crew. Also as an off topic question.... anyone have pics of a '04 wrx wagon with aftermarket OZ wheels? I like the dark grey wheels I've seen on a couple of silver wrxs but I haven't seen them on a blue car.
