Thumbs up WRX vs. Boxster S

I hope this is the right Forum for this topic.

Well this morning I was heading to work and I get to the the light and I pull behind a Boxster S. I noticed the middle aged driver look in his rear view mirror. I'm assuming he saw the STi hood scoop on my '04 WRX. So the light turns green and he punches it! Not that I street race but, I just had to see what my 3" cat-back only WRX could do against a Boxster S. It's wasn't a head to head race so I couldn't use our AWD advantage. I didn't get the best jump just stomped it from a 5mph roll. Believe it or not I stuck with him the whole way up to 80mph untill he let off. He was only a half a car length ahead of me. I knew I couldn't pass him, I just wanted to see what my Rex could do against a Boxster S.

Yeah there pretty even. There handling is amazing because they are a tru mid engine car..to some degree even though under powered in relation to the 911's there weight distribution is much better.... Gemballa has a total kit for the S that makes it a monster.

So I guess it's not suprising that I hung with a Boxster S?? I felt if it were head to head I would have taken him. My firends dad has a '96 Boxster and it feels really weak for what it is...

Off the line you would have owned him. Boxsters are wanna be Porsches. $43,000 for a regular one, $50,000 for an S. The newer ones are better though, but still not worthy of the Porsche name.

My ex GF had a 6spd Boxster S. I used to drive it sometimes, pretty fun car to toss around, and the convertible top is cool. But when it comes down to power, the S cannot touch my VF22'd WRX. Hell, I even beat the "real" Porsches.

Our cars are definitely low end cars. But once we start hitting higher speeds, thats when we start lacking. But doesnt it feel good that your $20000 car hung with a $40000 car!

despite boxsters being considered low end porsches and not worthy of the porsche name, straight out of the box, a boxster s would perform significantly better than a wrx on a road course. the rear wheel drive, mid engine, definitely gives the boxster better handling capabilities over a stock wrx. 50K for the car, it may not be worth it (unless you go for the anniversary edition), but picking up an older one these days for 20K may be still worth thinking about despite the negative thoughts about the boxster.

To add to the above,
plus it will probably out last our subies in terms of quality and their dealerships won't hassle them over warranty work.
