Who almost ran me and my dog over today in san jose?

To the blue 04-05 WRX with black wheels (looked like stockers painted), brown skin dude driving (Islander maybe) that totally almost ran me and my dog over today as we crossed 11th Street @ Margaret off the 11th street exit.

I was the REALLY tall guy waving his arms in the air in a desperate attempt to get you and the idiots around you to STOP for the friggin pedestrian and his dog in the cross walk (Yes, IN the crosswalk... There are three lanes and the middle car stopped and everyone could see me, there was NO EXCUSE for the BS move that you and the few other cars that wizzed by me as I was stuck in middle of the street in front of the one car that did stop).

I don't think I've ever been more angry in my life... The WRX came within like 4" of my leg and my dog... I had to yank all my weight back and snap my dog's position back so he didn't get hit. If I didn't notice the fact that you weren't slowing down I would probably be dead or REALLY injured, and my dog would be dead too. So thanks for yielding to the friggin GIANT wearing a bright orange shirt in middle of a giant cross walk (where I had the right of way) waving his arms in an attempt to get your attention.

This was today at around 2:20pm on 11th St in San Jose. I've never snapped at someone like I did today (the other car that just about ran me over).

Am I the only one who ALWAYS gives pedestrians the right of way? Ug, I'm still really irritated about it and it was over 6 hours ago... I had to post about it.

No one watches out for pedestrians anymore. I play frogger every day on campus, it sucks. Glad you and the k9 are ok!

Yeah...That shizz pisses me off. I think that has happened to all of us were you yield for pedestrians in the crosswalk and some a**hole blows right thru almost killing the ped. I had the reverse happen on Friday in Tracy. But this is the stupid ped's fault. Can't remember what major street is was, but it was about 3:30pm, right after school let out. About 200 ft before the intersection a large group of middle school age kids dart out running across the street, trying to beat the oncoming traffic. They made it o.k. but the straggler girl who couldn'nt make up her mind whether to go or not decides to go at the last minute! I could see the whole thing since I was in the lane closest to her, so I slow down to stop for her as she now lazily walks across the street. The pickup truck in the lane next to me could not see her because she is obscured from view by my truck. I could see him coming up behind me, in the next lane, doing about 45 mph. So I lay on my horn so alert her and the pickup truck coming up fast. Well the stupid girl does'nt stop and steps out in front of the truck who I think started to slow down when he saw me stop and heard my horn. He slams on his brakes and swerves to avoid mowing her down, who jumps back to avoid getting hit. I still don't think that stupid girl knows how close she came to dying. What's crazy is I could see everything unfolding in front of me in slow motion. I thought for sure I was gonna have help this girl after watching her get splattered! Good thing for you that you were on your A game and avoided tragedy!!!

It sucks that you were following the law and some idiot put you and your pet's life in danger. However, you're probably a very rare case where you are following the laws for a pedestrian. When a pedestrian is following the laws, they have the right of way and cars should stop for them. However, I see 90% of pedestrians feel they have the right of way in ANY scenario, whether it's them crossing the street in all black clothes at 10:00 at night nowhere near a cross walk to crossing the street at an intersection when their light is red and cause all right of way traffic to stop. IMHO, if I hit someone who's doing something illegal like that, it should be treated as if a car is running the red. Their damn fault. Don't even get me started of all the idiots who wear all black on a bike with no reflectors or lights going the wrong way at night...

I've often wondered if peds and cyclists "open carried" they would catch the eyes of drivers more often? I think it's basic human nature that people pay a lot more attention to something that can harm them than something that can't. They notice the truck pulling out a lot quicker than the little old lady.

You should conduct an experiment and see if drivers are more likely to yield if you're packing heat. Just make sure you aren't within 1000 feet of a school and not in city limits. Of course drivers might try even harder to take you out if they see a gun, so keep your eyes open.

Seriously though. I was cycling late at night once with front and rear lights, riding in the correct lane, and I almost got in a head on collision with some guy dressed in black riding a bmx bike the wrong direction! I was like WTF?!?

That's some ****ed up ishh... Even more so being w/ your dog. I could see maybe if you were some ****ty driver pulling out infront of someone else last moment. Happened to me plenty of times in SJ where I had to lay on my brakes but this is a different story.

If you were only 4 inches away from being mowed over, you should have jumped up in the air and come down hard on his roof. If not the roof, then perhaps the hood - put a major dent in his car...and get thousands and thousands of dollars from his insurance agency.

If nothing else, do a "Bruce Lee" kick into the side of his door. If he comes here to complain about some pedestrian kicking his door, hunt him down and...
