Cool STi vs. EVO

Today I was driving and see a black EVO play catch up and get along side, it is an elderly couple (60's). Looked kinda funny. Later on while pulling out of the gas station another black EVO drives by. We both caught a red light. The guy driving looked like a total jackass, and didnt rev the motor or anything so I figured he wasnt gonna go. I leave normal with a little accel, then my buddy is like "he's going, he's going" so I punch it. I was at his rear 1/4 when I punched it, I was pullin harder than he was, eventually passed him. That made me so happy that I chose the car w/o a radio.

I've got a few friends of mine with fast cars who tell stories about "kills" all the time. "Oh, I killed this Camaro Z28, oh I wiped the street with that GTi, man, that 350z couldn't even touch me" et cetera.

Then I actually went out driving with one of them, in his fire-engine-red SRT-4. True to his word, we "killed" almost everyone we "rolled" with -- however, most of them were never even aware of the fact that he was "challenging" them, and a lot of the people he counts as "kills" most likely didn't seriously try to race him or backed off when it seemed obvious that this was an unsafe thing to do. He bragged for DAYS about "smoking" a Dodge Viper on a city street, when those of us with a brain know that Viper could have passed him in second gear -- if he had tried.

Moral of the story: the only "kills" that count are at a track, with a tree to time the launch and timeslips for proof afterwards. 90% of the people on the street are too concerned about damage to their cars, tickets from police or abusing their engine/transmission to actually "race" full-tilt on the street. Those 10% that actually DO want to street race end up in jail or dead. Here in Phoenix, we get 2-3 wrecks per weekend from the street racers, usually young kids in craphole cars; last week one of those idiots lost control, TOOK OUT A PEDESTRIAN and then went through a brick wall and ended up teetering on the edge of an empty pool. He killed, alright.
