What Gearbox for over 600ft/lb's.. ?

What gearbox would people recommend that will handle over 600ft/lb's? Since my subaru made over that on 1st september 2004 (in the UK) - thanks again to Dave Wild from DTW, and Mark at Lateral Performance.

This is my power graph, for your viewing pleasure :

I am guessing I would need to use a dogbox? I used to use one of these, but I did find it quite noisey.

Do seq gearboxes exist at all? how much are they? who sells them?

What about paddle shift dog boxes? how much are they? who sells them?

any details of any other gearboxes that can handle this type of torque? I want manual, and it has to be easy to drive, as I would like my wife to also drive it, but with the boost turned down ;) I don't think I can handle this power, let alone, letting a women loose with it!!

Thanks,

Christian

graph should now be showing - sorry about that!

My God... what the hell do you have in that thing?

To answer your question, the STi 6MT should handle it. Beyond that, you need to go see about getting a gearbox from the Mates at Prodrive. ;)

Are you sure? I have heard other reports about the 6speed. Where are you getting this information from?

intersesting graph..must be way more than 2 liters..2.5, nice turbo too, not too much lag,.

For the tranny.. one word: Tremec (T56)

ChristianR 09-07-2004 08:11 AM

what is the tremec t56?

ChristianR 09-07-2004 08:17 AM

did a google, i dont think it will fit a subaru.

and according to : http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/T-56.asp , it will not handle this much torque.

Actually, that gearbox can handle the torque. It's what they've been putting in Corvettes and F-Bodies for quite a long time. But, what's the point of a RWD STi? ;)

Ben 09-07-2004 01:12 PM

the t56 thing was more of a joke
but, they are incredidble trannys
the ones with shot peened gears and iron shifter forks will handle well over 600 ft/lbs of torque

ChristianR 09-10-2004 01:47 PM

:)

You could try quaife, I know they make custom 4wd trannys, might have to get driveshaft, axles, and differentials for it also. But their stuff is pretty strong. I don't know whether it will fit for your application but you can talk to them. I think their website is http://www.quaifeamerica.com/ . I have had good luck with them in my race cars.

I would think that the STi 6-speed would handle it.... But then, I think JUN uses the same tranny in their Hyper Lemon car as well too... Which has HP numbers in the 600+ range... nit sure about torque...

I too am VERY curious as to how the heck you are able to generate so much torque...

How about some pics of your setup?!

I am not sure I would be looking at Prodrive for their gearboxes.... IIRC, those go for arounf 70,000K

600 ft lbs.......I'd bet this would hold. As for the rest of the drivetrain I don't know.

i dont think the case it self in a 5 speed would hold 600 ft lbs
