ugghhh...clutch slipping

After 48K+ miles, my clutch started slipping last night. I noticed it a bit in 3rd and then I tested it in 5th on the freeway and it slipped :- ( Once its warmed up it seemed ok, but I think its the beginning of the end

Assuming normal driving, you guys have any guestimates on how long before it becomes undrivable? Im planning on taking some trips to Tahoe, but dont want to get stranded.

Matt

hmmm... hard to say, I was close to 100k when I changed it. I drove it for ~1k since i noticed the slip. Then I was going to HPDE at Infineon so I changed it before that. I was going to leave if for a little longer if it was for the HPDE. So not sure how long you can last before it's dead. Plus, mine is a 00RS. good luck!

yeah Ive burnt it up about 5 times too many...I worked it pretty good a few times in the mud and sand

It was fun, but damn it sucks now! I was planning to do some other mods, I wasnt expecting to drop $1K on a clutch. Oh well, gotta pay to play I guess

Yep you got that right...

If you just drive normal then get another stock clutch but might as well throw in a lightweight flywheel while your at it.

I just read that it could be a glazed clutch and that the slipping may stop, anyone heard of this? that would be nice

Exedy or ACT lightweight flywheel should work just fine. Though most people do upgraded clutch/flywheel at the same time, I don't see how it would hurt to do stock clutch w/ aftermarket flywheel.

do both wrx's and STI's come with Dual Mass Flywheel? or just STI.
i'd stick with DMFW if it originally came with it. if you go with lightweight it'll be more noisy...

Question clamp load?

would anyone happen to know the clamp load on the exedy clutch kit, the street series? doesn't the wrx tranny have a certain threshold on clamp load or torque percent increase? sorry, pretty knew to this whole clutch thing.... i too have to replace my clucth i have about 70k on the car. i'm most likely going to get an exedy, seems to be the choice for clutches. any recomendations? i dun wanna have to upgrade too much on the tranny part, hahaha i'm on "budget mods"

Is this all the stuff I need to replace the clutch?
-Clutch Disc
-Pressure Plate
-Pilot Bearing
-Throwout Bearing

And Im not sure what I want to do about the flywheel -- either new or resurfaced. Are there any downsides to resurfacing the flywheel? I wanted to do the light flywheel but there isnt much info out there being used with the stock clutch

For the price, I would just upgrade. I love my ACT stuff.
