I had my tranny rebuilt TWICE for the 3/4 grind (I even had a turboback the second time). It's a synchro problem, not a consequence of abuse. Get a diagnostic appointment, they will order the parts, then you bring your car back, get a rental (A nice legacy in my case), and come pick up your rebuilt tranny in 3-4days. The first time someone rebuilt it incorrectly, the second time Kevin did it and it's beauty.

It's all in the attitude you approach the dealer with. If you go in there demanding blah de blah etc etc, they could certainly fack you over. If you have a great attitude, remain calm and discuss things with the service advisor, I would almost guarantee that Carlsen will help you. Don't quote crap you've read on the internet, don't quote my story, just tell them your problem.

Good luck.

thanks...one bit of possibly possitive news is great.

My service advisor at Santa Cruz has been nothing but cool to me and very very helpful. We chat..I'm cool with him and what not. I have nothing but very positive words for them and him. So hopefully they'll do what they can. I just can't go forking over $1500 on a moments notice..if I could do that I think my car might not be stock...or I'd be driving an STi at the least. I'm just joe working guy with no degree man.

So hopefully it'll go more like your experience.

I baby the crap out of my car. I've gotten into it a few times...in the snow or what not but nothing to do that kind of damage....man I pounded my civic tranny with about 40% more horsepower for a year. Drag, AutoX, tons of mountain roads...etc..etc....not one freakin problem until the very end and that was after teaching a couple people how to drive stick and my girlfriend and my buddy have my car for a week each and them smoking my clutch.

so yeah... I definately fit into the no abuse catagory.

that's crap man. I won't pay a damn thing. My car is stock. My tranny is not abused. I've been driving a stick consistantly since the day I took my drivers test in a CRXsi with one. And been driving them off and on since I was about 8 and started driving dune buggies. I don't drag race...shoot I can barely launch my car so I don't even try. I freakin baby my car..it's my first new car and it's not easy for a working single guy in the bay area to buy a new freakin car...as many of you know.

It feels to me like my 4th gear syncro is going and probably damaging the gear itself. It's just getting worse.

My coworker had a similar problem with her 03 completely stock wagon..(has 17 inch SDR) but anyways...far as I know she didn't have to pay that but I just emailed her so we'll see.

I'll be taking it to Santa Cruz Subaru...(bought my car there august of 2003) Had all my timely service done there. Including the completely useless 10k service that cost like $200.

so yeah....I'd love to save for an RA gearset...except I'd just go voiding more of my warranty doing that and I paid for a 100k warranty for a reason. Man if I would have knew SOA pulls crap like that I wouldn't have gotten a 100k warranty and my car would have about 60 more horsepower to the wheels.
I'm not guarenteeing you that you'll have to pay, I'm just saying it's more likely than ever, and they will almost definatly ask you to sign off on the potential of paying $1500 IF it is found to be abuse. I threatened to sue as well, and the chick at SOA reminded me of the dude in the bay that now has to pay 75k becasue he lost! The BIT** was trying the scare me!

Let them toss that bit at me. Just more fuel for my lawyers file and my case. Threats and what not. That dude also had a modified car and had tracked it if I am not mistaken. And on top of that I doubt he's got the kind of lawyers I'd have access to. But hey...I hope it doesn't come to that as I love my subaru. I love my dealership and I love my car. I'd hate to have to change some of those views. you know.

Your telling me. I sport the SWRT hat daily. I felt betrayed when they asked for that money. I think you will have better luck than I becasue it is only one synco. I just can't beleive they asked at all since they addmitted that one of their "stellar performer" dealerships had installed the clutch wrong and wore the syncros. And I repeat, my car is BONE stock with 30k miles. Confusing. Your a good guy though, I wish you the best of luck.

man that sucks.... I can't believe they pulled that on you man. Sounds like your car is in the same situation as mine and with similar miles on it.

Did I miss something? Did you get your money back by chance?

Shoot I noticed my tranny was more notchy that the one I test drove and the couple others I've driven as soon as I picked it up and have mentioned it before. Hope it works out. I'll be really bummed if this drags on or is a major issue.

No, I never gave them any money. When I took my car in Howard said I wouldn't have to sign off on the $1500 since GV broke the tranny. It was SOA who later called (two days later) and said I had to put down the money. When I told this to Howard, Alvin, and Kevin, none of them could believe it, and one said they "souldn't bet on it being covered" considereing that they shouldn't be asking in the first place. Just ignore my posts for now. It's worth a try. Take it in. If they say they want $1500 just try and fight it. I just posted my story becasue I wanted to give you some heads-up just in case, and well, because I was looking for someplace to rant. Good luck.

I have a tranny that came out of an 04 that we took out 2 weeks ago.

I can sell that to you when and if you need a tranny... I do need your old tranny for core or any core thats a WRX.

Less than 15000 miles on the tranny(owner installed RA gears). Asking $700 and I get your old tranny or any tranny as long as it is complete open or closed really doesnt matter as I will replace everything inside it with RA stuff and syncros if needed.

We can install it as well for "$400 labor only" and $450 "labor only" if you want the flywheel replaced as well.

Just to be clear, we need a core exchange.

We all know you had way more horsepower than stock, and tried to get SOA to foot the bill for your tranny. Unfortunately it's people like you that caused SOA to start this stupid policy of deny-service-first. Sad truth.

Am I on crack, or did Gino just say he has an RA gearset tranny for $1100 installed with swap. Anyone want to do a three way swap for my perfectly functional tranny? (I get RA, you get mine, Gino gets your broken one?) For the $4-500 labor, seems like a hell of a deal.

<calling gino>

Here you go MP

OEM tranny = $700 on parts, plus we need a core exchange or no sale and just add labor..

RA complete transmissions are $2600 maybe a tad more due to price increase on the gear sets or sales tax (old pricing) installed with 30 day warranty and we always need a core otherwise no sale.

Just to be clear, I need tranny cores to keep building whole complete RA transmissions. I will even buy a broken tranny just so I can build them ahead of time.

I took my car into santa cruz subaru. Couldn't have been treated better...shoot I was even about an hour late for my appt.

Bruce took me in. Rusty took my car out for a spin. Soon as we hit the freeway he shifted into 4th..grind. Without question he just said..yup. Gonna have to tear it down. Got off at the next exit and went back to the dealership. So they are ordering parts and will tear it down around tues/wed probably. Should have it back in a week or so.

NO...and I repeat NO $1500 hold payment. They did take my credit car number down.....and they did give me a disclaimer about it showing abuse and showed me a gear and said...if it looks like that...we won't pay for it. It was ken's gear....ken with the blue wrx with yellow accents....yeah....just a little bit more power and more aggressive use than mine..haaa. I think I'm safe.

I'll let you guys know how it goes. But with bruce and rusty I feel like my car is in good hands.
