Tranny Fluid
Anyone got a picture as to where you pour the MT oil? I see the dipstick... Maybe I didn't look hard enough, lol.
And did any of you use this in your front or rear diffs??

It's time to change the differential and tranny oil in our 2001 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport (2.2L NA). The owner's manual calls for an API GL-5 gear lube for both. The car is just used for normal driving (no track or autocross use), but I want to put a good synthetic lube in so hopefully we get lots of life from the car.
I've had good experience with Redline MT90 in my other cars, but the bottle and Redline web info says it is a GL-4 lube, so I don't think it will work in the Subaru.
The Redline 75W90 and 75W90NS are both GL-5, but I'm not sure if the limited slip additives are needed. So, two questions:
1) What type of limited slip do these cars have (helical, viscous,..)?
2) What are other people using?
Any info appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron

Definitely use GL5 fluid- this means no MT90. Redline will tell you the same thing. As for the diff, if it's an auto, it's open. I think 5MT's from '01 had the LSD, but I'm not sure. Your owners manual can tell you. If it is, it's viscous, so the modifiers are for it.

GL5 has to do with lab tests they use to grade fluids out. It's like saying DOT 3 brake fluid, or Dexron III power steering fluid. It's not directly related to viscosity.
