same thing happens to me occasionally.. I drive an 03 wrx. It's usually when I don't press the clutch all the way in. I was thinkin a stainless steel clutchline would help.. but I think your car comes stock with ss clutch line and if your having the same prob I dunno. I'll probably still get an ss clutch line regardless

You mean "SOA" not "SCCA", unless your dealer is quite odd. And it's not just them- at the moment, no dealers are authorized to repair the 6mt because the technicians have not been trained on it yet. Right now, your options are pretty limited. You could simply pay a local shop to replace your synchro (fairly expensive, and I don't know if I'd want anybody but a trained Subaru tech in there) or you can take your chances on letting them send it out. If it were me, I'd probably let the dealer pull it and ship it, because a bad synchro is pretty likely to be covered, especially if it's on the downshift that it's grinding and not the upshift. "Driver abuse" is more likely to come from super duper fast, "look-at-me-I'm-a-rally-driver" 3-4 shifts than from the 5-4 shift. You could also get the sefvice writer to promise you a discount if SOA doesn't cover it since you're taking a chance on losing $1000 just to find out.
