The Kartboy short shifter is pretty popular. Other people swear by the optional STi shifter and linkage (must be used together). Cobb Tuning also markets a double-adjustable shifter. It's also suggested to change out the factory soft rubber shifter bushing. Both are relatively easy mods to install.

That noise from The Fast and the Furious is fake and looped into the track after filming.

ScoobyMods.com shifter install.

Might be time to invest in a floor jack and a pair of stands (don't depend on just the jack). I have ramps but always have a hard time stopping at the right moment with a stick.

Or, find someone you know with a jack and stands.

My car is still at stock height and while I can barely crawl under it, that doesn't leave much room to maneuver tools while under the car.

Another method might be to drive up a series of two-by-fours or pieces of plywood to get the car high enough to work under. Just make certain that the pieces are large enough to provide stability and not allow the car to shift while you're working underneath.

I saw ramps for 20 bucks at autozone the other day, they would work perfectly for you doing a bushing install. THey had a really large bump on the back side so i'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to drive off them.

20 bucks vs's possibly getting hurt. . go with the 20 dollar solution.

As for short shifters, I've used the perrin(2 minute install), and SPT which is quite a lengthy install when you have to remove the cat pipe to get where you need to go. After installing the SPT I wished I had kept my perrin. Finally I just went back to stock with kartboy bushings and that keeps me happy.

but between those two, I'd reccomend the perrin in a heartbeat.

There's another trick that isn't mentioned at ScoobyMods.com when installing the Kartboy. My shifter hit the steel support plate underneath the console when put into 1st gear. If you remove the plate and flip it around, I've been told that it offers enough clearance to avoid contact with the shift lever. It would have saved me the trouble of breaking out the Dremel.
