Righthand drive and gear pattern?

Just interested,

For subie's in other countries that have the steering on the right, is first gear up and to the left just as it is here in the states?

I'm pretty sure they don't change the trannies just for country preference, so it's the same (not mirror) shift pattern

Yes, I can confirm this. The RHD Skyline GT-R I drove last week had a normal shift pattern (1st gear at top left, 6th at bottom right, etc.) It was surprisingly easy to drive the car; I adjusted to usin the other hand much more quickly than I thought I would.

But are you left handed? That would make it easier...

I'm left handed and actually prefer the stick on my right side, I dont know why.

In the U.S., we've become accustomed to left-hand drive vehicles with the shifter on the right. I saw former ChampCar driver Arie Luyendyk drive a one-off race in IMSA GTP at Laguna Seca back in the late 80s or early 90s and he said the one thing that took getting used to (in addition to driving a GTP car) was the shifter placement in the Mazda prototype being on the left. Even though he'd driven RHD cars in Europe, he'd never competed in a racing environment with that sort of shifter placement. But, yeah, to my knowledge the shift pattern remains the same even if the stick switches sides in the car.

Are the pedals mirrored or are they the same?

They are all the same. My 180SX in Japan was shifter to the left, same gear pattern, pedals in same positions.

It was a lot more comfortable to shift with left hand (I am right handed) felt more secure keeping the dominate hand on the wheel. Taken a little effort to adjust to the bassackwards "American" Layout.

Forums are great... I just learned something new today! I've always wondered how things are from RHD cars.
