Folks,
I need some assistance here... My tranny is about to be opened up for a repair. I am considering having the dealer put Redline MTL in when they are done. I have used redline mtl in other applications with good results. Here are my questions:
1. Is MTL the right redline product for our trannys ('02 WRX manual)
2. Is there something better I might look at?
3. WHat Redline product do you all recommend for the front and rear diffs?
thanks,
lndbrusr

Here is what Dave Granquist <Dave@redlineoil.com> told me in e-mail:
In your Subaru transaxle I would recommend the Red Line 75W90NS.
The ShockProof gear lubes are design and used in racing and
speciality applications so wouldn't be as well suited to street use
in your synchro type transaxle as one of our other products such as the 75W90NS.
Some of the guys in my regional (Bay Area) i-Club use and recommend Royal Purple for the 5MT and rear diff. I think I will try this product in my tranny. Royal Purple can be found in NAPA auto parts stores in California.
EDIT: made Dave Granquist's e-mail clickable. I did not ask him if his recommendation about 75W90NS was specific for the 5MT, or just synchomesh transmissions in general.

thanks for the reply - I also got a similar response from Dave at Redline, recommending the 75W90NS.
He also remarked that 75W90 gear oil, which would work great in the rear diff, would be a bit too slippery for the synchros in the manual tranny.
Apparently there are a number of WRX owners that HAVE used the MT-90 with good results, but no it is not a GL-5 lube as Subaru specifies.
