Question rally shifting

I am going to be doing my first rally in about a week and have been doing some research on the way that rallying works in SoFla and it says that the whole race is basically in first and second gear. I did some looking around in these forums for shifting from first into second because on my wrx it just doesnt work and i now know that it doesnt work for anyone. So if you cant shift into first gear when going 20 mph wont that kind of give me the screws on my racing. I know that i will probably be more worried about keeping my wagon from flying off the track sideways but if anyone can tell me if there is a way to get my car to smoothly move from 2nd to first gear at around 15 to 20 mph please give me a hint.

right, like svek wrote. think of where 1st might be, clutch out of 2nd. rev up to rpms you think would match 1st gears rpm then engage clutch to 1st gears rpm's.
I don't go into 1st from second too much but I do go from 3rd to 2nd a lot. And if I'm in 3rd and decelerate to 40 I then look at the tachometer. if I want to go to 2nd gear i'll swich out of 3rd, and rev to 4000 rpms and clutch into 2nd and that is near perfect rev matching.

hope i helped
