Hey guys sorry if this is the wrong forum.

I recently installed a Perrin lightened pulley on to my 2002 4EAT WRX. Before this pulley I was running 13.91 1/4 now after the pulley I'm running like 15.2 ~ 14.7

Do you know if this helps or kills my performance. Oh I've only had the pulley on for about 3~4 days. Does the ECU have to learn that it's there?

The only differences that I've noticed is that the RPM's raise a little faster and that the car doesn't pull as hard. Before my 60ft's were like 1.9 at very best (no torque converter yet - but it's coming) and not it's 2.5 ~ 2.4. Also the low end doesn't seem like it's there at all now. before i had very little low end but not it's not there (doesn't feel as strong on the low end). Oh my AC is a lot colder though (doesn't due much for performance though)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any pulley kit, on any car, is a waste of money and can unbalance the crank and mess **** up. Forget it, its crap.

 

Who's the other person that Polled? can you please tell me why i should leave it on? how long does it take for the computer to learn that it's on.

Br1t1shguy: A friend got it for me for Christmas . Thank you for the feedback. Unbalance the crank? Whoa! if this is so then why do they make it? just a question.

i was thinking about buying a pulley set for awhile back, simple, and not too pricey. i searched for some info in the old site. there was some mixed feelings about it. i decided not to buy it.
the unbalance was something about harmonic balance in the stock pulleys.
sorry im not too much help.

Because I have proof that it adds 5 wheel hp and 8 ft.lbs of torque on otherwise stock WRX.

Imprezer: Tonight I tried again but this time i put my stock airbox back in (other night had blitz Sus Intake) with a blitz drop in filter after about 5 runs at different boost settings I managed to get a 14.4 which is still slower than my all time best of 13.9. my norm was about 14.0 ~ 14.2

how can this be that my times become ****ty due to this lightened pulley that's supposed to give me HP rather than take it?

can someone please tell me if I can screw up my engine if i have the pulley installed onto it?! I'd like to install it back onto my car since a good friend of mine had gotten it for me for xmas. but if it will destroy my engine in the long run is it really worth all the trouble?

can someone with a 4EAT that has a pulley installed on their car reply!

Jon there are two sides to the camp on lightened pullies. Some say you'll eventually break the engine. Others will say that with a flat4 like our Subies, we dont need a harmonic balancer.


There is no concrete evidence otherwise that it's detrimental to your engines longevity, just a potential for it. Eitherway, it should take you less then 20 minutes and an extra foot to swap it out to see if it really makes a difference. Swap it out at the tracks

Just a note on the install, an extra foot only helps if you have a manual. An automatic will require some sort of strap wrench for the pulley. The motor will continue to turn if you have an auto. I also think 20 min is pretty optomistic I've done three so far and I've always taken out the fans to make room and covered the back of the radiator with some cardboard to protect the fins. More like an hour or better depending on how long it takes to get the bolt off the pulley the first time. It's a bugger.

FWIW I've had one in for 61K and no problems so far.

Peaty: How was your 1/4 mile times.. did they improve or did they worsen after the pulley? As discribed earlier the car felt as if it had absolutely no power when i pushed down the gas peddle! is this because i don't have the TC in yet? what are your experiences with this!

 

I can only give subjective data I've never been on a 1/4 mile track. I felt that the car spun up quicker to redline. Mine is a 99 RS with a manual. I can say it didn't feel like it hurt the peformance though.

 

If you know someone with a 4EAT WRX (with a lightened pulley) can you ask them about this?
