Installing Kartboy shifter? READ ME!

I have yet to crack open the tranny, but I'm pretty sure I have a bent shift fork. The story is like this: I put in a Kartboy short shifter and bushings. When driving the car, I had a really hard time going into 3rd and 5th. I really had to jam that thing in there. Hard. After a couple of days of driving like this, I was looking for the problem. I saw the metal gate that holds the rubber peice the shifter sits in was deflecting the linkage to the right. This problem and it's solution can easily be found by serching the forums. I didn't. Well I relieved the gate, but apparently the damage had been done. I'm guessing the combination of the linkage deflecting, and me (stupidly) trying to force it into gear was enough to bend the shift fork. The moral? Don't be like me!

Damn that aint good, but at least you don't have a bunch of peices of metal runnning all around inside the tranny. I hope not

this esp. sucks because SOA is really deny-happy over bent shift forks...you may be on your own.

That's okay, I wasn't planning on making a warranty claim. I just guess I'm going to have to start my build up sooner than I planned.

Is this a prob for ALL kartboy shifters? I've had mine for bout 3 months+ now and I was just wondering if I should be worried.

I'm not to sure. I'm pretty sure that if there was a problem with yours, you would know. It's pretty glaring when it won't shift into 3rd. Did you flip or modify the gate?

Nope, I noticed there was a slight grinding when I shifter to 1st but it was so slight I never even bothered to do anything about it. And what he means by flipping or modifying the gate, it's the square piece of metal that comes in contact with the fork that holds the shifter in place sometimes when u shift to 1st gear. Anyways, I think it's called the fork.
