Shift-o-rama
So this is the question that I pose to all you manual transmission owners out there: We all know, or should be learning about, double clutching but since I am not too in-the-know about the technical specifics of this shifting technique maybe some of you can tell me how it is better than say simply disengaging the clutch, bliping the throttle to get the proper rpms (with the clutch still disengaged), shifting to the appropriate gear, and re-engaging the clutch. It seems to me that this achieves the same purpose without the extra foot work. Anyway, I just want to hear what you all think. Thanks.

All you need to do to double clutch is this. Let off gas-engage clutch-put gear to neutral-disengage clutch-engage clutch-shift to the appropiate gear. Thats it. Its mainly to help save your tranny from hard shifts. What it seems like your talking about is, rev matching. Used to go down a gear.

I'm even more scared to try it at higher rpm's. It doesn't *seem* to change the feel of shifts any, but it's probably doing its job of spinning the gears down with the engine.Elcorazon is probably talking about double-clutch-rev-match downshifts.
Although there have been lotsa threads on this .. simply put, double-clutching your downshifts simply make it easier on the synchros. It may or may not make downshifting faster. You'll know that there is less work for the synchros because a properly done rev-match downshift will make the shifter just slide into gear without any resistance, the shifter will not "pause" in front of the gate for a moment before going into gear.
For me, I just double clutch on downshifts because it is a bit more fun and makes less work for my hand/arm. I have a short-shifter, and without double clutching, I can't downshift fast because i'm too afraid that if I force the shifter into gear I might grind it. (short shifter=less leverage to the gears, more effort) Oh, and I do love my car dearly.
But simply put, rev-match-double-clutch downshifts cut down on normal wear and tear to the synchros, which PROBABLY only helps, (or shows for that matter) later on down the line after your tranny goes through many miles. This means that only people who care for their car and plan on keeping it forever would probably care for this technique.

if you're double clutching AT ALL you've watched way too much fast and the furious and should either sell you're car or try and learn about it a little bit.
If you understand a modern manual transmission you understand how you never need to rev-match or double-clutch an upshift, and the most you should ever do is rev-match a downshift (if you know how to drive the why when and what of this is self-explanatory)
