Hey first gear and reverse grinds sometimes!
from a stop, if I bang it into first (clutch still depressed to the botom) or rear quickly (not BANG, but just forcefully) it grinds. Is this a problem I should take to the dealer for service?
and o yah if I have tranny problems unrelated to power, but I take the car in for service and they notice my catless setup, would they take note of that for future warranty voiding reference?

Don't "bang" gears on any car.
First gear synchro is notoriously slow. Reverse doesn't have a synchro...so the faster you move the more grinding there will be.
Depends on the dealership, and the future problems. If you have an O2 sensor problem, they probably wouldn't warranty it. If your wheel bearing goes out, it shouldn't be a problem.

ah that should be it.
Well I mean I am not an aggressive shifter by any means, but I've noticed you just can't shift on the wrx anywhere near as fast or smooth as some other cars

the exact same thing happens to me. like i take the car out of gear to slow down before going into a driveway so it'll be in neutral. then i realize i need it in 1st to get up the driveway so i put it in 1st (all while holding the clutch from shifting out of gear earlier), then it grinds.

Before I put my car in first gear (or reverse) especially from a dead stop, I shift into second gear then first gear (or reverse) all the while keeping my foot on the clutch. When my syncros were messed up on my old Honda, this trick always helped getting the car into first or reverse smoothly.
