hard to shift into 1st and reverse

My trasmission is getting hard to shift into 1st and reverse.
Reverse is worse than 1st.
When it's not going in, I engage clutch in nuetral and rev a little bit, and then try again. Sometimes works, sometimes not.

Is there any cure for this?

I just changed transmission fluid but it wasn't MOTUL or anything fancy.

If there is a transmission fluid you recommend, post it here.
NEO? MOTUL? REDLINE? ...???

It's 99 2.5 RS transmission.

right before you go into those gears. blip the gas a little and it will help it go in easier.

I think the difficulty with reverse is one of those things thats there so we can look back fondly on the little 'bugs' in our classic Impreza. Almost everybody has had a problem with shifting to reverse and downshifting to 1st, not to mention the clutch chatter.

Same thing in reverse.

Sometimes I'll put it in reverse, let the clutch out about halfway and it will EXPLODE out of reverse... Scaring the crap out of me and my passengers. I imagine its only time till it explodes into pieces.

Interesting if nothing else...

The reverse thing is very weird sounding, although I did find out after I had about 1,500 miles on my Suby that it will throw the car in neutral if you get up past ~20mph in reverse. Strange, but probably a good idea.

That definitely sounds like something that deserves a dealer look-see. Might be a bad fork or spring in there somewhere.

Anything that doesn't affect horsepower would be irrelevant to his transmission, so he doesn't have to worry about suspension and stuff. The burden of proof is on the dealer to prove that your mads CAUSED the problem, not just might have. A good contract lawyer will eat them up if they give you crap about it.
