Grinding

I have an 06 wrx that came with the momo short shifter from the facory. When I shift into gears it grinds and doesnt go in very smoothly. Anyone know what this might be? Is it the short shifter, gears or maybe I need to change the transmission fluids (I think im almost due for it). Any advice would be great
Thanks

time for a new clutch? Or, are you making sure the clutch pushed is all the way in when you are changing gears? Thats my only thought. I doubt it has anything to do with the shifter.

I made sure to push the clutch all the way in and it still does it

did it ever have a spare tire? could be your center diff. just a possiblity. had a spare tire on my car for 3 days and now my center diff grinds like a mofo. does it only grind when you let off the gas?

Sounds like like it could be time to change the trans fluid. What fluid are you using and how many miles?

Thanks

If still under warranty, have the dealer look at the problem.

definitely get it looked it by a pro but in the meantime, double-clutch and shift slow

Does the grind happen in all gears? From a stop? while moving? Do you hear any other unusual noises? Miles on car? If it does need a clutch and you are grinding gears then eventually you will wear out the synchronizers and gears in the transmission. And if its under warranty, take it to the dealer and also Clutches aren't covered under warranty.

If it's the clutch, I have a exedy replacement clutch for cheap. New of course. Oh and good luck!!

Im talking about the actual moving of the shift lever. It just feels notchy when I move it, I drove my friends mazdaspeed3 the other day and it is so smooth. Maybe this is just how subaru trannys are. Im still pretty new to subarus and I havent driven any other wrx's so I dont know what they all feel like

The topic is grinding.

You say notchy, i would not reply to this post if you posted notchy on the title or the discreption.

Good luck on your issue.

try using the 'uncle scotty's cocktail' it is a mix of 2-3 quarts Redline Shockproof (either lightweight or heavy depending on winter/summer and where you live) and 1 quart of motul 300 gear oil or 1 quart of subaru extra-s gear oil. My tranny has 100k, I had grinding shifting into first and 4th, both problems have literally vanished since I put the shockproof and motul in the tranny.
