Will replacing the gearsets with an aftermarket set make the WRX shift better or does it just improve durability of the gears? Will you need to get a full setup like the KAAZ with included synchros to make a noticeable difference in shifter feel. Currently I own a 2004 WRX with 3,000 miles and lets just say shifting is not the best. How can I reasonably improve the shifting performance and feel of the car?
My complant with the shifter system is that it is very inconsistent.
It can sometimes feel really smooth other times it can feel like the gears are lumpy and hard to get into. Second gear is especially cruddy. I find it almost impossible to run 1st into the high rpms and then shift with descent speed into second. It feels as though there is resistance shifting into second at speed.
I have also on occasion when riding the the rpms up in second and third had the shifter feel like its being propelled out of gear as I go to upshift. Again this only happens while riding the car aggresively, but I didnt buy a sports sedan to putz around in.
I have installed the cusco shifter bushings which helped. I may try a short shift, but I think some of the problem stems from the synchros not reacting quickly enough. Wouldnt a short shift just aggrevate the situation even more?
Does the STI trans have the same feel to it that the WRX has?

try to rev match....might help....but i would get a short shifter like the STI or Kartboy before getting into a tranny...i would rather spend the 3500 on ECU, Suspension, and wheels....
On mine, it gets better as I drive it more. At around 7k the shifting is fairly consistent. I think this tranny just takes more time to "break-in." At least it is for me.
