The gear oil debate is over
Motul Gear 300.
I just switched from the Redline 75w90ns and can't believe the difference. I have been a Redline user for years but the 75w90ns recommended by Redline tech was just not the right product for our trans. The other lubes I was considering were the Redline shockproof and the Neo RHD. No gl rating on the Shockproof and price on the Neo dictated that I try the Motul first -- my search is over -- this stuff is that good. I fully recommend anyone not happy with the 75w90ns or considering a switch from dino to synthetic to try this stuff. You will not be disappointed

Redline Shockproof Lightweight is better than 75w90NS for our cars. Maybe not as good as the Motul, but certainly cheaper and way easier to find. Nobody ever seems to not like the Motul however.

in my RS I put the 75w90ns in and got a grind when shifting from 3-4th right away. I would have to shift very carefully to get to not grind. I put in shockproof and the grind went away and never came back.

I left a message for Kevin @ Carlsen w/ no response yet... I'm concerned about bringing my car in for transmission warranty work after trying the Shockproof to see if it fixes the problem. Since its not GL-5, I wonder how picky they'll be. What do you think?
I've heard it never really can be flushed, the blue Shockproof that is. I have a tone of Valvoline 75w90 sitting around... I just might try to flush w/ that and then put Motul in. The Motul is GL-5/MT-1?
thanx,
jason

Ok, the Motul has been in the trans a week now and I still can't believe how good this stuff shifts. I even put the kartboy bushings back in and like them now. If there is a negative, it would be that there is no reduction in gear noise. This was not expected as both the Redline ns and the Motul are 75w90, but would be nice. I may still try the Neo at next change interval.
Jgrahn555, have you tried both of these? Comparison or comments?

I've seen subaru trannies blow up in rally cars using Reline, valvoline, GM Syncromesh, Motul, and Mobil. I have not seen a tranny blow up using Neo.
take that how you want, but it speaks volumes to me.

None the less, the Neo oil made for much better shifts than Redline NS or the stock oil. I'm using non-syn to break in the new gear set but I'll switch to Neo or Motul after the break in period.
