FWD warning light

I bought an used 1999 Brighton Wagon yesterday. It's in great shape and I love it, BUT the FWD warning light is on...the manual says that means AWD has been disengaged. How do I re-engage it?

Car Info: 97 LOB, 05 FXT, 03 Tundra

Under the hood, on the passenger side, right up next tot he firewall, there should be a fuse labeled FWD. Pull that fuse and you're in business

Putting the fuse into that holder puts the car into FWD/limp mode (if you're running a compact spare on the rear, for example.

Hope that's all your problem is.

Thank you! I pulled it and there doesn't seem to be a problem. Out of curiosity, is there a problem that a "crafty" used car salesman might camoflough by inserting the fuse?

yep you may have been hosed-let me ask you when driving very slow and turning tight do you feel the rear of the car binding-like it will shutter-the problem is that the transfer clutch pack is worn and the seals on the hub are cutting grooves in the case and clutch pack cage-could give you all the details-but thats after you reply that you have this problem.

I just drove it in slow, tight circles in my yard and if there is any of the things you mentioned I can not detect it and I assume that if there were a problem even a trusting, uninformed driver would notice it?????

you really aren't going to feel binding if you're in grass (which I assume your yard is covered with) because the wheels will slip on it. Try a parking lot.

Thanks! I will try it. The sharp turns I made were on a gravel driveway but the circles were mostly in the grass. I really love this car. I hope everything is ok with it or if not that what needs to be done isn't an arm and a leg!
