Mario, looking for an alternative to building a whole new trans. Gears are really expensive. My other alternative is running a 4.444 ring and pinion. Parts are about $900. As far as gear ratio, my understanding is that is is a bit shorter, but gotta verify the specs.

Have you ever thought about the RA gear box?? The ratio's are way shorter  MPJ performance quoted me $29xx.xx shipped to me You also have a choice if you would like to retain the stock 5 gear for better cruising on the highway The only thing is you have to ship your tranny back to them when you get the RA one in. That cost another $3xx.xx

Changing your ring & pinion is going to do nothing for your tranny, fyi

Dahveed, my understanding is that the 4.444 ring and pinion final drive will lower my gearing. What do you mean it will do nothing??? Strength wise, I understand, but for autocross, there should be a significant increase in mid / bottom end power.

I wish i understood what you are talking there WRX151 But if you where to swap out your rear diff wouldn't you have to FAB so much more? Also do you think that an RA trans is not enough for auto-x or is it just not in your budget.

no, you just change the front and rear differentials.
keep in mind the center goes through a 1:1.1, so the front ratio doesn't equal the rear's.
the forester's mt5 IS stronger than the stock wrx mt5... just look at the torque it has to contend with! no idea about the ratios though...

On the 4.444 ring and pinion conversion, it's only the 2 rings and 2 pinions(1 for the front diff and 1 for the rear diff). Mario, Travis at Hypersports does my tranny work. This final drive conversions shouldn't be too hard to do. It's also cost effective as it will only cost $900 for the parts. I would love to go with a real gear set, like Gimme Gears, but it's not in my budget. Just looking for a better power band and torque for SCCA.
