first gear grind...... help!
ok i know some people have had trouble with syntheticgear oil, doing some crazy grind vibration thing only in first. and then the solution was just to slowly put into first. well i got tired of doing that, so i swapped out the 50 dollar purchase of syn gear oil or subaru oil. and now i still ge the the same thing going on here. should i have the dealer check it out. do i have damaged gears? synchros? thanks for your help and insight

Grinding into gear is usually synchro related, you're grinding because the syncros are not doing their job in slowing down gears to make it a smooth transition. I pretty sure if you keep on grinding you will chew up your gears, I would take your car in and get it looked at. My car is grinding in 4th right now and will be sent to the shop on tuesday, crossing my fingers that they don't pull the abuse thing on me.

hey thanks for the reply...well in a sense first gear is the most used correct? and for something like that to happen just with gear oil swap is kinda odd. i think i'll give it a try though. hopefully it will be under my extended warrenty.

BTW synthetic gear oil is generally a little TOO light on synchro's. Most people i know don't like it becuase of the synchro problem.
I think the most popular brand is redline or a blended mix of oils.
