To Drain or not to Drain?

Does anyone know from experience if you have to drain the transmission (5mt) on a 2005 wrx wagon when replacing a front axle. I'm hoping to minimize the mess but don't wanna take the time to drain it if I don't have to. I'm about to replace mine for a leaky extremely messy CV boot this afternoon.

Thanks in advance for any advice and also I found a good DIY on scoobymods.com if anyone knows of any others I would appreciate the link.

you do not need ot drain. I just had mine done a few thousand miles ago.....I dont think you get any fluid out at all as there are seals there.

Thanks for the heads up. The axle was out of stock everywhere so it will have to wait until tomorrow.
