Differential Oil Change?

Hi,

I've got a manual 4wd '91 Legacy with 200K. I changed the differential and transaxle oil at around 80K but have left it ever since. The color of the oil has not changed in the transaxle over this period although, I haven't checked the differential. Subaru indicates to just inspect the fluid at 30K but the graph only goes through 60K. For newer manuals it indicates to just inspect it through 120K. Should these oils ever be changed if they don't get contaminated?

You don't have to change them, but I certainly recommend it. If you have ever ground a gear (and you have, nobody ever engages reverse perfectly everytime ), then your oil has little metal shavings in it...

If you are a BC-BF Legacy fan, join us over on bbs.legacycentral.org, we have our own forum which is mostly technical...
