I just found a torn front inner CV boot. I was wondering what's the process on how to replace, even a diagram would be awesome. This is for a 99 impreza 2.2L. Thanks in advance

 

I replaced both my axles. It isnt really a hard thing to do. If you know what you are doing it wont take long at all.

 

How much does it cost for the axle usually?

 

usually not more than $100

good thing its an inner boot though.. shove your finger in the tare and get some of the grease out. run it between your fingers. if it feels gritty that joint is done

however, if the grease is nice and smooth with no "sandy" stuff in it.. you might just be able to pull the axle and replace the boot! ($10)

Call me lucky! I drove around for months with a torn rear CV boot on my old wrx wagon (even in the snow) and when I took the axle out to install the new boot and grease kit, the axle was good as new.


Now, my older 84 Subaru wagon wasnt so lucky, that thing clicked so loud it was like I had a baseball card in the spokes....but then again I did endess clutch drops and jumped it quite a few times...that probably had something to do with it
