clutch slipping on my oo rs 60,000mls
wel in 4th and 5th on the freeway when i accelerate fast the reves go up but no power is directed to the tranny, this is a slipping clutch rihgt? there is no clutch burning smell. is 60,000 mls normal for this to happen? i was thinking about replacing it with the exedy clutch but want to know if i should replace the fly wheel or if resurfacing is possible?
thnx

thnx for the input but mommy and daddy did not buy my car and those kids probably learned to drive on those cars. granted i do drive hard and probably could have made it last as long as urs if i never opened it up. u say u work for subaru then u could answer my ? about the posibiltie of resurfacing the fly wheel or how much a stock one cost and if is copatable with the exedy clutch kit?

Well i still have the stock clutch in my Legacy 92' non-turbo, i drive it pretty hard and i havent felt so much as a faint slip from it, im having a couple of tranny problems at the moment related to the synchros, and i was told to check my clutch 1st to make sure it wasnt slipping or anything, i went out for an hour trying to make it slip with heavy downshifting, heavy accelerating in gear, but not even a slight twitch.

clutch slipping
I have a 00 Legacy GT wagon, 63,000 miles. The clutch slips in 4th and 5th gear. I don't agree it's the driver. I'm 49y/o have drive sticks all my life. I've had Honda's that I driven 192,000 mile plus on the original clutch. They would still get tire in second gear.
IMO, Subaru has a problem with there clutches. I'm about to replace mine with a Exedy clutch. Right now I'm not to happy with Subaru. Last weekend the strut's for the rear hatch lost pressure. What kind of piece of crap car did Subaru sell me.... I've had leaks in the rear sunroof also. The dealer couldn't fix the leaks so I had a body shop fix both leaks.
Too bad Honda doesn't make a AWD station wagon. I don't want a SUV.

To answer your question, it sounds like your clutch is gone. You may be able to re-surface your flywheel, but that can only be determined when you pull the flywheel. I have a 2000RS with under 30,000 miles on it, and replaced the clutch and flywheel even though the clutch was still good. The stock Subie clutch is nothing to write home about, with all of the shudder problems and lack of grip I replaced the OEM with Exedy clutch and light weight flywheel and love it, I would never think of going back to OEM.

press odnt type in all caps next time, sounds like your yelling
and 60,000 is about right for a clutch to start slipping if u occasionally dump it and stuff....not too bad.
