Beefing Up Tranny!?

As we all know, the stock tranny on the wrxs are pieces of sh*t! They break way too easily. If for some reason, my tranny breaks, and the dealership won't fix it, what would you do?

A) Replace the stock tranny with another stock one?

B) Put stronger gears in like dog gears?

C) Fork out the dough and buy an sti tranny?

D) Other?

I was under the impression that the reason for the transmission failures has been due to case flex coupled with driver error. Getting the ra gears, which I wouldn't mind doing , still wouldn't solve the problems with the tranny case flex. Imprezer had a little speech about this, search on the forums and I'm sure you can find it.

Oh yeah I'd vote for gettinf the STI 6spd, that's what I wanna get...

I honestly think that there are only 2 options:

a. Get a 6MT
b. Keep using stock clutch, flywheel and install 03+ clutch slave cylinder.

alex, how hard is it to install the 03 clutch slave cylinder... what is the difference from the 02?

-- you also dont suggest getting a lightweight flywheel with a stock 5spd? any reasons?

I would stay away from LFW if you want to try to prolong the tranny's life. Not that it is proven that LFW cause damage, but in case it does happen, you will have difficulty getting warranty with any mods. Especially those directly related to the tranny.

The 03+ slave cylinder has some funky valve in it. It prevets the clutch from being "dumped". Kinda like a slow pass one way valve. It makes engaugements smoother and will prevent the tranny from being shocked.

Installing it is easy. You will need to bleed the clutch system after that.

I really want to know about the RA swap. It seems like a good deal but i want some insight on how its good and how it wont solve anything. Also im curious if theres a special bracket i could have fabricated to lessen the case flex. Thx _Todd_

I'm looking forward to the new reinforced 5spd tranny on the legacy that's coming out.
