You'll need more than a transmission... Whenever I see someone ask this question, people usually respond saying that it isn't worth doing the swap $$$-wise. In any case, it would be helpful if you said what year/model car you have.

I'm also stuck w/ an auto... I decided to mod it anyway, and get some experience w/ working on subarus before I eventually get a 5-speed (or six??? -puts pinky to corner of mouth-)

I'm not the expert, but I believe the AWD system makes it a little more difficult... I think you'd need a rear diff... but I'll let someone else who is sure answer your question.

Its not worth the money to change it. I would take that money that you would spend on the swap and use it to modify your car.

www.protorque.com sells upgraded torque converters for WRX's.

also, the standard mods for 5MT wrx's also give good gains on the 4EAT wrx's. I'm at 40k miles with a VF34 and all the supporting mods and engine management. I have all the teeth on my gears.

i heard it can get pretty expensive and there are a lot of parts. unless you get a good deal on the 5mt why not wait a lil while and go for the 6mt? the 5mt is kinda iffy sometimes.

You need both the clutch and brake pedals, clutch master and slace cyl with lines, 5MT and all associated linkages, 5MT driveshaft, 5MT tranny crossmember, rear diff, clutch, flywheel, and misc hardware. What's sad is that I have all of this stuff sitting in my garage.
