I first was kinda bummed at the auto's performance. But after learning the quirks of the car and doing a few mods, I love it. The biggest thing i learned is from a stand still to get a good launch, DO NOT JUST FLOOR IT. Flooring it actually bogs out the engine untill the turbo spools up. Instead, just give it a little gas to make it roll, feather the gas pedal and it will spool up quicker, and when you feel it starting to spool, FLOOR IT. I know it sounds like a lot of crap to do, but once you get it down ( knowing how much to feather the throttle before flooring it) it gives you a quicker launch then just flooring it. I have a few more mods to do, and I've been told that with the mods that I have, it will take off from a stop almost like an n/a engine.

yup i agree too. when you just floor it at a dead stop, the car is dead slow. but if you just go half way then jam on the gas, the car goes pretty quick. it takes awhile to get used to, but its fun. i havent gotten used to it yet, but im working on it
what mods do you have darren?

About tranny temps....does altitude and atmosphere temp help the tranny temps? for example in NYC its been freezing cold lately, does that contribute to help the tranny cool faster?

it would make sense that it would help cool it faster. get a tranny cooler if you're concerned about tranny temps.

I almost bought an AT because of traffic, but I didn't. One side effect is that my wife can't drive my car.

if you guys wanna launch from a dead stop, do the brake torque launch. warning: do some research first cause you can kill your TC in the process...

For those of you living in colder weather, you might wanna find out how people in your area like their coolers. IIRC, the combo of cold weather and the cooler and maybe synthetic ATF leaves you w/ undesirable results as the oil needs to reach a certain temp before it'll upshift.

The fastest WRX is the Rigoli wagon (GF body) w/ 4EAT doing 8.98 and you can see it here

Woops..forgot to answer Shin's question. What can be done? I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Level Ten. You can have them do a valve body job which helps make shifts firmer. You can read more info about it as I'm not too familiar w/ working on the 4EAT or any tranny for that matter. Protorque can help you w/ upgrading your TC.
