Goood!!

Yet I don't see any somewhat cost effective way of slapping in a 6 spd.......
That's because they're expensive.

I guess I should save and buy an sti............
No need to make threats. Alex has a great thread somewhere around here about bolting in the 6 speed. edit: here it is: https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...&threadid=3541
But, I really wanted a car that I could tinker a little with and not have the thing blow up. Advice?
Don't tinker. No, I kid, i kid! Your WRX tranny is good for a bit more power, but not if you want to take it to the limits for very long. If you don't want to shell out the dough for a 6 speed, but want to handle a lot more power, then you have the option of a dog-box. Downside of that is the noise they produce.

They range in price. the MRT set looks to be the most cost-effective while still being very durable. it runs about 4 grand last i checked...

http://www.isrperformance.com/script...ns-Drivetrains is one place to look.

True. But if you want an alternative to the 6 speed that holds power, well, there you go.

A 6speed conv can be done for relitively cheap as long as you get what you need and avoid the rest.
