4th gear synchro going what to do?
Have a modded 02 wrx about 300whp, It gets auto X once a month. Stock tranny still in. Have that hideous crunch going into 4th only. Surprisingly 1st and second and third are fine. Have tried all the lubes, neosynthetic 75-90, GM gear oil, lucas oil stabilizer, still grinds. Should I just run it until it fails completly? I was thinking sti RA gears, or should I just replace 4th gear synchro for 25$ plus labor$$$$$.

Honestly
If your considering doing the ra gears, do them .. If you have 2 grandish lying around unless you baby your transmission the stock one gives out with anything more then 300 hp.. I have about 450 hp and had my stock tranny go kaplop going 35 cause i kept putting the ra gear swap to the backburner to get more hp...
I should know better but hey i am getting charged 2300 for ra gear tranny rebuild so im happy...I guess it all depends on exactly how much money you have to spend if you can drive it and not drop the clutch you will be ok, but if you plan on driving it hard i/e racing ect its in your best interest to just do the ra swap, besides you will be happy when you get it back i got to drive my friends wrx and wow its a big difference.

Tranny problems don't fix themselves- you're gonn have to do something soon. RA gears is the best compromise between strength and price. A 6MT is the best bet for not having to ever replace anything again. And of course, you can probably pick up a used 5MT for cheap.
In the meantime, try Redline Shockproof, either light or heavyweight. It's the best stuff around for helping needy synchros. And stop shifting so fast.
that's the real isue. If you have a short shifter, be gentler with it.

got the RA gears
Went with the ra gears with cryo , bearings and sychros from gruppe-s. They did the rebuild and sent it back for 2600, popped it in and it works well. I will be racing this weekend for 1st time with it and we shall see. Got to fix an exhaust leak first. The car
runs about 300rpm higher and the speedo is now off by a whopping 8mph!! but who cares. They did leave the drain plug loose wich could have been a disaster that is my only gripe but i should have checked it. Another potential disaster was the flywheel was ready to explode, donot buy lightened flywheels with the a metal ring gear scewed onto aluminum disc. The screws back out.
