I think you will find that as you get more miles on the car it will ease up a little. My car now has 2000 miles on it and 1st is much easier than it used to be.

try to shake the shift *** left and right couple times~ then try again! it works on mine suby!

btw another problem i have now is sometime when i shift into 1st gear... i will hear crunchy noise ka ka ka ka ka .... ! sometimes it happen when i am doing the reverse gear! it bother me for a long time but still don't know the reason... might going back subaru and check this friday...

since it's a 03 i don't think you have the old tranny... but you never know... you could go to the dealership and findout. if it's an old tranny, there is an update. They should cover it under warranty.. good luck!

So is that update tru for 02' cars as well? I'd just let the car warm up longer in your garage before you start to drive on days that cold.

I have the same issue on my 03 Sedan. It is not an issue when warm and seems to get better with more milage. I dont think it is anything you should worry about. I have had 4 subarus with manual transmissions since the 80's. EVERY ONE of them have had this condition.

I did change to Synthetic oil and this has helped on Cold Northeat Mornings
