Depends on your model.

I found the 5 speed almost rediculously easy to smoothly shift.

Of course it was also modified and had short shifter + bushings

The STI was more diffulcult to shift smoothly, maybe i got used to the 5 speed *shrugs*

I eventually just blipped the throttle a lil between shifts and it seemed to smooth out.

Is this your first manual car?

With enough clutch pedal control you should be able to smoothly shift without using gas. Or, just be lazy like I usually am and give it some juice while working the pedal.
