Want to hold off STI
So my friends getting an STI. Hes not really familiar with subaru's so hes askin me alot of questions. He asks if he should get a BOV, i give a little speech on how it makes ur car run like crap. Im just tryin to help him out, he gets mad because he wants one because the sound it makes. I explained at this point hes just detuning his car. He goes, "i'll still blow it on you"!. Kinda makes me wanna kick him in the nuts.
Im really set on beating him now. I was going to focus on braking and suspension, but nah, now all i want is power. Im considering doing Up/down pipe with a tune. I already have an exhaust. Where does this leave me on a stock STI?

Don't worry about beating him...let him put a BOV on his car...if you really want to get close to an STi you have a long way to go, I would suggest EM first. Check out Cobbs website. Cobb claims that Stage 2 on an 04 WRX would get you 224 hp your still down to the Stock STi of a claimed 238. Not that numbers win races, but thats how close you are.

what MY wrx are you driving? 06+ have considerably more torque than earlier years. either way, it's his car. if he insists on getting a BOV after you tell him it's bad for his car, just let him do it.
if i were you i'd still do suspension first...you won't regret it. just my $.02

havnt had my o2 wrx long, but everyone sure is delicate about the transmission, anyway u wanna beat the sti go to vishnutuning.com or subysolutions.com they power packages in there that'll do it, if dont have that much to spend do your downpipe and upipe, gonna have to to make ready for any other mods anyway.

20G, bigger TMIC, fuel pump, new clutch, better brakes(if you cant stop, dont go), injectors, cobb ap, protune.
this setup should help you beat an STi.
honestly, (my .02) just set your car up how you want and dont worry about beating someone. If you are happy with your car, nothing else matters.

If you have't gotten a tune yet, you'd better do so. Romping on the WRX without a tune is gambling with certain Rod bearing failure. The fuel blip is really not good for the 2.0L. In the event you do wipe the rod bearing. Hybrid is on your horizon.
