How do you properly launch an STI? seriously
I wanted to know how you would properly launch an STI. Can anyone give me some experienced tips. Right now im just dumping and i know that thats bad but i dont know any other ways.

Dumping at what RPM? Especially for the '05, the STi drivetrain is quite advanced, so let it do the work for you, it's got enough diff's in it. Hold 5000 RPM and then just feel your clutch out....try dumping it, then with some slip, then with whatever gets you the best time. You will spin all fours, but be patient and let car do it's part and it'll hook up. One caution though, do this alot and you will end up frying your diffs, probably the center one first. Also, if you install an aftermarket clutch with more holding power, launching could become more difficult. This car just wasn't designed to be a drag racer (without some major mods), but hey, ya know we're gonna try to do it anyway!!

I haven't tried this but what about mashing the gas with the clutch in from idle then as the revs come up (be ready) dump the clutch right around 5 grand and hold the throttle until the 1-2 shift.

Personally, I snap-rev in the vicinity of 5.5k-6k, then when the 3rd yellow lights up, I try to simultaneously slip the clutch out and floor the throttle.

This is basically what I do. Rev to about 5k and then floor the gas and drop the clutch at the same exact time (keep the gas nailed to the floor and hold on). I made several back to back 1.66 sec 60' times with this method.

I just heard this from the warranty admin at my dealership - long story short:
WRX STI with less then 10k miles - customer has transmision problems
warranty claim DENIED - transmission service cost $2800 - result customer abuse mostlikely due to high rev clutch drops.
Customer fought this through some litagation with Subaru - result: warranty DENIED - customer now is out nearly $3200 including legal fees.
Service techs can tell the difference between transmission problems and parts failures vs. abuse
Just had to share.
