86 300zx
my budy's got an 86 300zx(non turbo) that he wants to sell me for $1,000. Its pretty much mint, 80,000 miles, T tops, new clutch etc. But are the 86's any good?how do thier engines compare to the newer body style Zs?how much boost could it handle? Im guessing its probably all cast internals ? Its only a 3.0L v6 but man can that thing light up the tires! o yea... hows the insurance on an old 2 seater like that?

just because it is old doesnt mean it is less durable
the old suby turbo motors from the 80s all had forged pistons

A buddy of mine has a twin turbo 300zx. It's nicely modded and very fast.
I used to have a modded '01 Camaro SS and we would usually split when we raced from a roll. From a stop, he would usually take me by half a car.
I traded that car in for my STi and we haven't raced yet (he stores his car for winter.....sissy). I'll throw on a few mods before we tangle again in spring. This time though, I'll favor the standing starts over the rolls.
I used to have a modded '01 Camaro SS and we would usually split when we raced from a roll. From a stop, he would usually take me by half a car.

went to the california speedway recently.. at the drags.. the twin turbo 300ZX's were wooping on camaros.. apparently there was a camaro vs Z grudge since both krew went to drags rollin deep..
as a witness and spectator.. those TT Z's were woopin A S S . beat all the camaro's, all ran 11.5- to 11.9 1/4 times. very sick. this one old skool 280Z had a custom swap with a twin turbo 300ZX engine dropped in. that thing represented for the imports that night with a 10.1 1/4 at 148MPH.
to take on those Z's, WRX's need rebuilt internals, then it will have a chance or then it will own. for example ESX tony rigoli's rebuilt imprezas.
those Z's were using stock internals. as a WRX owner, i i know where i stand.
stock internals can hit up to 12's for an EJ20.

looks like ultimate racing recently hit 11.8 with ej20 stock internals!! so im wrong about the the previous statement hehe

your cousin is full of $hit....300z's stock turbos can't flow near enough to make 500rwhp, let alone anything more. He would have to have upgraded turbos among all the other supporting mods... do me a favor, leave the threads concerning 300's to someone else, you are clueless.

got rid of my 2.5 rs
=( ... i got rid of my 2.5 RS ... and bought a 93 NISSAN FAIRLADY 300ZX Twin Turbo ! =) ..... i just ran it at the tracks last weekend... w/ Intake, exhaust, ecu, 555 Injectors, downpipes,clutch, boost jets,boost controller,subframe spacers,grounding sys,silicon rubber hoses and lines, w/ no race gas and ****ty tires I ran a 13.2 at 114mph....60ft. 2.056.........i'm close to 390@the wheels, 410 torque........ i plan on getting the Td05 kit w/ upgraded side mount intercooler , and 3.2 liter internal swap... ...i'm done w/ AWD.... the only problem w/ my Z is that it has no TRACTION control..... i break traction at 4600 RPM .... in 2nd and 3rd gear.... first is to wild to punch in.. so i shift at 3,000 RPM ... damn i love it.. i have low end and top end.. beautiful =D

yeh.. thats what i assumed too... i did 6 runs.. this was my best.... i need better tires.. the tires i was using at that time were all season performance yokohamas.... i think i'm gonna buy some S03's ....... then my next mods gonna be stiffer suspension for the rear, another problem w/ 300zx's is that i get uncontrollable wheel hop.. its ridiculous... thats one factor i miss about my preza... i could launch at high RPMS and still maintain traction.... i think stiffer suspension, and better tires would help considerably..... but hm... i miss my imprezer =(
