sti tranny swap 02 wrx?

is it possible to swap the new sti tranny into the wrx relatively easy or is it hard and expensive. I've heard the the stock wrx tranny is not strong if you push the car hard alot and I was a track/daily driver and I know the sti tranny is stronger and don't know of any aftermarket performance trannys. thanks for any help

it bolts up.
You just need a new shorter driveshaft, 3.90 rear ring and pinion gears for the rear diff.
I'd suggest a lighter flywheel.
It's not a cheap switch, but the 6-MT works better; I love the way mine runs.

Good luck

I thought the front axles were different too... like in a new axle/hub/suspension kind of way. Everything STI is beafier too so I'm not sure it'd be a hot idea to use WRX rear diff. Proper way to do it would be to do everything from the STI. But if expensive was a problem in the first place then take into consideration the STI transmission is going for like 5 grand or something outrageous these days. I mean I heard it's a good transmission and all but they're not cheap.

you can use the 180 axels, but that requires alot more cost. you have to change the axel hubs i believe.
you CAN use the WRX axel shafts and the WRX rear diff (after changing the ring and pinion gear) and it works fine until you increase the HP of your car beyond the STi's.

The STi tranny works VERY well with the WRX, especially with a lighter flywheel.

You are right about the cost though, it's not cheap. But you will not have to worry about the weak WRX tranny anymore.

You may want to look at an RA gear set for your 5 speed too. I know people with this conversion and they're very happy with it. There's less shifting than with the 6 speed since the gearing is closer.

www.gruppe-s.com they are a vendor on i-club talk to Preston. They sell them as cheap as they get. I highly recommend them. Just don't try and by c-west stuff from them(don't ask)
