STi 6-MT Swap questions
STi 6-MT Swap questions
I've been working on swapping a STi 6-MT into my '02 WRX
The guy I have doing the installhas realized that the electrical connectors on the 6-MT don't match the ones on the car that were connected to the 5-MT.
Has anyone who's done this swap had this problem?
Are we not seeing the obvious solution?
thanks all

LICmotorsports just completed a 6-speed swap today on I-speedUSA's Monster WRX.....i'm sure your overlooking the obvious...i'd imagine you just need to change the connector....you're not trying to hook up DCCD, right?? then you might have a problem.....but what do i know....i just change the oil and top off fluids!!

Andrew has a good question about the tranny. Other than that don't listen to him
We put in a JDM STi RA 6spd, the plug for neutral/reverse were the same, so it was plug & play, which was nice
Which is it? Or have you already resolved the problem?

All harness's are the same, unless you have DCCD. At that point, here's what you do.
Use the harness off the 5 speed. Unplug the black and white barrel connectors off of the 5 speed, and use that to connect to the black and white connectors on the 6 speed (after unplugging them from their harness). At that point, the 6 speed harness is still on the trani, but is just clipped there (not being used).
Basically your using the 5 speed harness right up to the barrel connectors.

i have a feeling he is doing US STi 6spd.. = DCCD.....
if you are doing US STi 6spd you'll need to get control unit and harness to make it work.
you can leave it unhooked and it'll still drive as open diff.

When I bought the tranny Max at Gruppe-S told me it was a 6-MT without DCCD
However, the harnesses do not mathc up at all.
The only 3 pin plug on the 6MT doesn't work with the 3 pin plug on the 5T
On the chance that it is a DCCD; does leaving it as an open diff make it work like the center diff on a stock WRX?
thanks all for your help

there is a 4pin grey plug coming out of the firewall .... this is the only plug I cannot find the other end to.
I have the intermediate cable and plug, but what is the other end.

on your 02 chasis, there is 3 connectors coming out from the center of the firewall (to the engine room)
1. Transmission cord (4pin)
2. Rear O2 sensor (4pin)
3. Vehicle speed sensor (4pin)
what connector is coming out from your 6MT?

we don't know what this white plug is .... it has 2 wires running from it: one green and one black, it's on the passenger side of the tranny towards the back
also, since I can't get an answer as to whether or not my tranny has a DCCD .... how can I tell
I specifically asked for a non-DCCD from Gruppe-S, but now there is some doubt.
Is it possible to tell just by looking at it?
Thanks again.

There were 2 connectors comming from the 6-MT, the speed sensor up front passenger side, and then the tranny cable the is attached to 2 sensors (one can be seen in the above picture top left)

that isnt on my 6mt, and i havent seen the dccd one out of the car... if its not dccd my guess would be that is is some sort of temp sensor.

Old thread, but I'm mounting a JDM 6MT to my 1998 Impreza GT/WRX, but there's no connector for the sensor pictured above. No problem really, but I'm curious of its purpose.
