One engine over another... IM SO CONFUSED!!!
I've searched this forum and the others and talked to a bunch of people... but cant find a sure answer to the question...
Which engine gives what in terms of performance, durability, and ease of swap...
I've heard great things about the EJ20T, EJ22, EJ22T, EJ25T (usdm and J-spec)
and I dont understand the differences between those and EJ205 or EJ207 and others like this.
I want to use it mostly for track and mountain runs and the occational whomping of people that deny the almighty power of the subby!!! at the drags...
Im personally looking for something that can handle alot of hp and boost for the future... dont have to strengthen anything really... and for this, ive heard EJ22T.
but then for the horsepower ive heard the EJ25T JDM
but ive heard about EJ20T being the better pick...
you can understand my confusion, and im sure im not the only one with questions about which engine to swap out... im just looking for a little clarification...
THANKS!!

Ahh I read this huge article one day that basically explained all your questions in depth... but I lost the link :-( The good news is I think I might remember some of it.
Not going to sit here and go over every motor subaru ever made but can give you the basics.
Open Deck = Bad
Semi-Closed Deck = not too shabby!
Closed Deck = Bulletproof
Cast Internals = Bad
Forged Internals = Good
Great with that said those are the details you're looking for in all of those motors you just mentioned.
EJ205 = USDM WRX motor I think... open deck cast internals.
EJ207 = JDM STI I think... closed deck forged internals, vvt
EJ25t = USDM STI ... semi-closed deck, forged internals
EJ20t = USDM legacy turbo motor? closed deck, cast internals?
And about all of the NA motors are open deck, cast internals.
But I'm tired so try searching around... the info's out there.

Closed deck is the only way to go if you want high hp levels (450). The strongest combo i've ever seen is the EJ22T block, Cryo and Nytrided crank/block/heads, forged rods/pistons, and then T-sleeves. Can you say 50 psi!? It's been done
Xcceleration.com does this but everything they do is pricey...you get what you pay for. Call em' up, I talked to the owner 2 days ago for about an hour about all the possibilities. Nice guy, very knowledgeable 1-860-985-3006
By the way, the EJ20T and EJ20TT are both open deck and people run 17 lbs (350 hp) of boost in them reliably and 20 lbs (400+) changing head gaskets every month.
Good luck

the EJ20G and EG22T both have the closed deck short block and yes they might have cast piston but they are thermal flow and thick with oil spuirters so in stock form both can make 450-500HP stock for some time before they wear and need replacing but the EJ20G has much better flowing heads a better turbo and a intercooler
there is someone with a spec c(EJ207) making 505 at the wheels stock shortblock so there not weak either
the EJ20K are open deck and the STIs had forged pistons with good flowing heads most people say to go with this motor but its as strong as a 207 or a G motor
the EJ205 in the WRX here would be the weakest motor subaru made in my opinion open deck, cast pistons, and heads that flow about the same as the older 2.5 DOHC heads from outbacks
but if you get a motor the strongest to get are from older Imps and Legs 96 and older or from 2000+ in a STI motor other wise you get open deck with cast internals
if you need a stronger short block go with a cobb or Crawford unit as they are much cheaper
