ok... i need engine help bad. 00 LGT
well i have a 00 Legacy GT. feels like theres no compression when you gas it. it just boges. it reads #4 mis fire. iv replaced coil pack, plugs, wires and fuel injector. anyone else have an idea? Also, if i need a new engine what can i replace it with just bolting in with no mods??? could i do a forester dual cam? there on ebay . 96-99. or do i just have to replace it with the same one, same year? i just dont know what to do. know one will buy it as is and its just sittin at my house. any help would be great guys. thanks so much

102,000 on the car. and did a compression check and its fine. so i dont think the head gasket has a leak. and theres no smoke. would there have to be smoke?

if there isn't any funny business at the tailpipe it's not likely a H-gasket. A failure would cause the coolant to mix into the combustion chamber, vaporize, and get puffed out as white smoke.
Get a leakdown test and check the coilpack to see if it is really firing. There may be a problem up the chain of command.

i just use a scanner from the parts store. it pretty much feels like it runs on 3 cyls. i also think it might be the piston ring. gettin some oil i think on the plug. its just sitting for now. i dont know what to do. ANYONE WANT TO BUY IT?

If compression is good it's not the rings. If the #4 plug wire is the only one with oil, it's the plug tube seals. Pull the valve cover (after draining the oil) and replace those seals. My friend recently had the same behavior, and it was that.
