can it run backwards?

I am building a wv beetle and want to use a wrx engine. because of a physical handicap I have to run an automatic transmission. would it be possible to modify the subaru trans. to run in the opposite direction so that the entire setup could be turned around backwards (vw style) ? I would prefer to keep the main drive axel in the rear (of the vw) so the front drive axel (on the subaru) is the main concern.

Thumbs up hot idea

way cool idea,... but you're probably asking for answers in the wrong place dude. read some of these other posts. mostly mommies boys trying to find ways to spend more of mommies money on equipment and accessories that they have no clue how to use or even why they want them,.... except for that their little buddies have one.
The reverse mounted tranny would probably be feasable with a 5 speed just by reverse cutting the gears. I couldn't tell you about an Automatic though,... just don't know that much about them. Have a feeling that using a VW or Porsche trany would be a safer bet, and probably a cheaper one too. I love your thinbking though,... 250 horses in a 1250 pound car would be a wild ride.
good luck.....
