Question 04 or 05 engine(or more?) into a 1999 2.5rs

Hey, I'm trying to research ahead, and I want to know anything you guys know about swapping a 2004 or 2005 sti engine into a 1999 2.5rs.
I'm not sure if there are other threads about this as I haven't seen one yet, or maybe I'm too blind or don't know the engine names.
Anyways, post links or what I would need to get for the swap(whatever other parts are required from the sti)
also if you have an estimate of how much you think it would cost for the swap(minimum to get the car working for normal driving, tell me if you're saying us$ or can$)

This is still a couple of years away since I don't have money and I'm in school...

And if anyone has gotten this done withing a decent distance from Toronto Ontario, I would love to know where!

Some main questions:

If I put the top mount intercooled '05 Sti engine in a 2.5rs would I need to replace the 2.5rs transmission?
Would I need to replace the hood to allow the intercooler to function properly?
Would I need to replace the current ecu?
What is the name of the 04 or 05 sti engine?
( I will update this list as more questions come up )

Thanks for your help.

I don't have any links but friends of mine have '02 wrx engine swap and '04 sti engine swap into a RS.

To two of your questions:
1. The hood doesn't need to be replaced, my two friends are running with top mount okay, no problems.

2. You should replace the ecu with the sti ecu.

In my opinion you should find a wrecked sti and swap over the entire unit: including transmission, motor, ecu, and rear differential. By doing so you'd save a lot of work on wiring. I've even seen the sti front dash swapped in, to reduce a lot of wiring. (sti interior gauge cluster, etc.).

good luck

You should go to www.rs25.com and check their swap forums. LOTS of info if you are serious. Also, go to www.garagetuning.com and/or email them. Kevin helped me out a lot... kevin@garagetuning.com
I am in the same boat you are school/money wise, but according to my research, the swap will (tranny, drivetrain, engine, etc) will cost you around $9000-$12000+ depending on what you want to do. Prices are subject to many factors, and I have a feeling that things will be less expensive when you are ready to do your swap, as engines will probably be easier to find. You may also want to check out www.rallitek.com. You can start to get a feel for the price of engines by checking their stuff out. I hope that helped. Keep the questions coming.
