Timing Belt Install

Hey guys. I am a bit overdue for a timing belt and was wondering if anyone here has experiance and/or is willing to help me out. I don't really have too much experiance working on cars and only have the basics in terms of tools. Would anyone be willing to help me out when I get back in town in 2 weeks (Oct 1-3)? I will definately buy food and drinks for the day and can kick you a little cash on top if you'd want (just moved for school and don't have tons of funds right now). TIA.

It has 123k on it. The motor was replaced at 67k, but there is no indication in the records that the timing belt was changed. It's due at 105k.

I've replaced a few timing belts. The main tool you need is a cam lock, because the driver side cams are spring loaded and if they spin and you can't put them back correctly you can ruin your engine. I'd like to help you but not sure I'll be able to. Where do you live?

Thanks for the answer Ryan. Haha. And I would be more than willing to drive to someone if they happen to be willing to help and didn't mind doing the work in their driveway or whatever. I could come back on another weekend if neccessary, thats just the week I was planning on coming back.

anyone know about the brand NTN? I think they make the OEM tensioner, but what about the water pump? Cuz I found them both local for pretty cheap.

Yeah I'm out in American Canyon. Thanks for the love man, I like how you went to a Bugeye front on your STi. I would do that if I got a GD STi.

Never heard of NTN, but I would recommend OEM. I can probably get you a good price on parts from Subaru, it would just have to be after the first.

As for a parts list for the job you should make sure you get:

T-belt
water pump
water pump gasket
thermostat & gasket
timing belt tensioner
the other 3 belt pullys
Coolant & coolant conditioner
And a fuel filter if you haven't changed that already.

I can probably get all these parts from Subaru for around $450-500. But I'll have to check. So if you can wait till the first weekend after the 1st I should be able to help you if you'd like. And will only take about 5-6hrs in my driveway..If that. But let me know. Thanks

Kyle

thanks for the info and being willing to help, but my car has decided on other plans. its overheating at a stop so i think either the tstat or waterpump is toast and school starts next week. gonna have to either fork out some cash or figure out who the oem manufacturer is.

Damn that sucks man. Sorry I can't help sooner. PM me if you don't take it to a shop and you have the parts/tools. I'll do my best to come help if I can.

Hope you find the help. I read about it being a fairly lenghty/ difficult install so had mine done at the dealer.

Thanks. I have figured out that NTN makes the tensioner, but not the water pump. So I'm thinking about just ordering a complete Gates kit. I trust their stuff and its under 350 with the water pump and all the idle pulleys.

And Allied, is the cam lock something I can rent from like autozone or kragen?
